March Athlete Spotlight: Anna Pansky

Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc.).

I’m from Richboro and a Council Rock North Grad. In May, I graduated from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation. While at Temple, I walked-on to the Women’s Rowing team. From pouring my heart and soul into the Schuylkill river, I left Temple with an American Athletic Conference Champion title and as a Dad Vail Champion. About a month ago, I passed my certification exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. I work at Woods Services in Langhorne with adults with Traumatic Brain Injuries. As a Recreation Therapist, I help my clients achieve goals through all types of recreation and activity-based interventions! My side hustle is being the Assistant Rowing Coach at Holy Ghost Prep. I love being able to pass down the sport I love to some younglings.

My favorite book or movie:

I LOVE to read but finding the time recently has been a struggle. I’m a big fan of cheesy fiction books. I’ll read anything by the author Jojo Moyes.

My favorite local restaurant:

My favorite local restaurant would have to be Isaac Newton’s. I love their bread and the mac and cheese pie/loaf/thing.

Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you:

I can wiggle my ears. My mom, my sister and me all can wiggle our ears. I guess it’s genetic?

How I was introduced to CrossFit:

So, I’ve always wanted to try CrossFit. One day, I finally got the guts to ask my two friends If I could join them at their CrossFit gym in the area and I was hooked. Then, I got the guts to reach out to Crossfit Newtown, tried a class and then I was like EXTREMELY hooked. I loved it!

My fitness routine before CrossFit:

Of course, rowing for four years in college involved a lot of rowing and erging. But, I also liked to do a lot of running, cross-training and lifting. It was just basically a lot of high volume cardio workouts.

.My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout:

I was dead, but in a good way. It was a good type of dead where I thought I could make it to another workout tomorrow.

My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:

I feel like I have a reason to be proud after every workout I do. Especially still being new to CrossFit, I am continuously shocked at what my body can do and what I can achieve!

My favorite WOD is:

I don’t have a favorite WOD yet. I think I’m still learning about like all the standard CrossFit WODs. I like any WOD that involves running, erging or the bikes!
My Favorite Lift is:

My next goal is:

I have a few physical goals for the future. I want to run a half marathon sometime in the next year. Also, I want to improve on all the gymnastics components of CrossFit, coordinated things like that has never been my strong suit.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?

After graduating college and ending my rowing career, I was struggling with continuing my athletic identity. I was still working out, but it wasn’t giving me meaning like it used to. Once I joined CrossFit Newtown, I instantly felt like I gained that identity back and felt like I had a team of people to train with and push me to my limits.

What I love most about CrossFit Newtown:

The people and the community that’s here. From my first class, I instantly felt like I was part of a big family. Everyone has been so motivating and has made coming to CFN my favorite part of the day.

What advice I would give to someone just joining CrossFit Newtown:

First, don’t be afraid to try a class. CrossFit can be for everyone and all skill levels. Second, try not to compare yourself to others. Everyone is at different skill levels and you’re the only one who understands where your body can take you. Keep working hard at your goals with CFN and you will eventually reach them!

Do you have any diet/nutritional advice:

Nutrition isn’t my forte, but my advice would be to enjoy everything in moderation and listen to your body. I’m a vegetarian because that’s what works for my body and makes me feel my best. Don’t restrict yourself with some fun foods because everyone deserves a treat sometimes!
