Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc).

I am married for almost 22 years to a very funny and great guy named Clem. We laugh a lot and live an active life together despite our crazy schedules. We have an almost 18 year old son, CJ and 15 year old daughter, Hannah. We are working hard to raise them to be good human beings. They inspire us everyday and work to be their best.

My hobbies are running, reading and dragonboat racing. I love remaining active and being on the water in New Hope with my amazing team members from relentless dragonboat association . And my Washington Crossing Running Club, founded several years back, runs regularly on the canal path in an effort to keep it moving!

I am inspired and surrounded by good design in the work that I do as a Workkplace Strategist for the iconic design brand: Knoll. It’s fun to help create inspiring environments to make the hours we spend at work more enjoyable!

My favorite book or movie: Book: Because of Winn Dixie and Movie: It’s a Wonderful Life

My favorite local restaurant: Oishi

My favorite band/music genre: Pearl Jam

Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you:

I am passionate about food and all things related to cooking… I love to cook creative meals! If I were a night person, my career would definitely be a chef/owner at a hip restaurant somewhere in a major city.

How I was introduced to CrossFit:  I was first introduced to Crossfit by Dr Tom when he was just starting the program. I was training for a half marathon and started CrossFit three months before the race to enhance my training. My overall time decreased by 8:00 minutes from the last half I had done! So I was convinced that it was an awesome way to improve performance.

My fitness routine before CrossFit:  running.

My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout:  after the fundamentals classes the first workout had thrusters…need I say more?!? It may have been Cindy…Stairs were difficult for a week!!

My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:  Doing un-banded pull ups

My favorite WOD is:  Murph (only for the one mile run!)

My Favorite Lift is:  Power Clean

My next goal is:  linking doubleunders, stronger pull ups to get to linking chest to bar, improving my standings for the open next year!

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym? My motto in life is to stay forever fit. Crossfit keeps me humble and feeling powerful all at the same time. When I start my days at CF 6:00am, my energy level the rest of the day is better. My family teases me about how my skills outweigh my courage! My two teenagers think that I should push myself more in regard to Physical Fitness but if I live to be a healthy 100 years old, I have to preserve my body for the long term! And because I enjoy CrossFit so much, I am protective about risking injury.

What I love most about CrossFit Newtown:

The Crossfit Newtown community is so amazing! Honestly, the most supportive group of people that want the best for each other and work very hard together. Our 6:00am class is a really inspiring group of individuals with a collective that cannot be beat. Everyone is like minded in overall fitness focus and support each other to the end of each workout. On the days that I feel like I am on my last breath and could not possibly do another rep, I hear one of my 6amers cheering me on. And then always manage to finish stronger with their encouragement. The new team structure during the Crossfit Open this year was an incredible community building experience to broaden our exposure to others! It was awesome to celebrate success and overcome obstacles with the Swole Patrol!! I feel re energized to be my best & challenge my comfort zone.

What advice I would give to someone just joining CrossFit Newtown:

Don’t let any external noise about Crossfit distract you from joining and then doing your best. Start slow and scale up!

Do you have any diet/nutritional advice?

Eat real food!

Meet with Matt for an evaluation and have him give you a plan! When I followed his advice and plan last spring, I lost 8 lbs of fat in 8 weeks and felt great. When I follow the program and count macros each day, I look and feel my best. Discipline is important and the strategy works! Food is my absolute weakness and will always be a challenge to overcome.
