Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc).
I recently graduated from Penn State University. I work in the sales department for a fire resistant clothing company. I travel 90% for work, so each week I am on the road headed to somewhere new. In my freetime I love painting, golfing and being outdoors (especially the beach).
My favorite book or movie: My favorite movie is Shutter Island, and the classic, Something’s Gotta Give.
My favorite local restaurant: My favorite local restaurant is Nektar Wine Bar in New Hope. Semi local restaurant, Gummlai Thai in Abington. A bit of a hike restaurant, El Vez in Philadelphia.
Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you: I was briefly a member of Crossfit Newtown in 2014, before transferring colleges. While in school, I minored in Recreation Parks and Tourism Management, so I love the outdoors. I was even able to hike part of the Appalachian Trail and Smoky Mountains. I also started the recycling program, so don’t forget to throw your water bottles and Bangs in the blue can .
How I was introduced to CrossFit: I saw the Crossfit Games on ESPN in 2013 and decided it was my 2014 New Years resolution to try a new fitness routine — and I am so glad I did!
My fitness routine before CrossFit: An intense amount of cardio, HIIT classes and Yoga.
My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout: Wow, I love this! AND Wow, I am out of shape!
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is: My most recent accomplishment was getting 15 consecutive push-ups. I am double jointed so push-ups we’re always a challenge for me. My two proudest lifts were back squatting 205 and deadlifting 233.
My favorite WOD is: Annie: (for time) 50-40-30-20-10 Double-unders and Sit-ups. My abs are usually sore for a week after this workout.
My Favorite Lift is: Back squat!
My next goal is: My next performance goal is to get five consecutive pull ups. My next aesthetic goal is to have super defined abs.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym? I have become more confident and hard working. I (usually) wake up at 5:30 a.m. to get to class, and that alone has made me a more dedicated person in general.
What I love most about CrossFit Newtown: I love the community atmosphere at CFN. I love that there are people pushing me to get the weight up/workout done and vice versa.
What advice I would give to someone just joining CrossFit Newtown: Be your own competition and motivation. Also, don’t be intimidated by how much weight someone else can throw around.
Do you have any diet/nutritional advice? Never restrict certain foods or food groups from your diet. Though it’s important to eat a nutritious and balanced diet, restricting something only makes you want it more– I’ve learned the hard way. Moderation is key, and restriction is the enemy.
A few months ago I started counting my macros, thanks to the help of Matt and the GLean program. In doing so, I have lost a significant amount of weight and body fat. I believe counting your macros is the easiest way to cut body fat while still enjoying food and living a normal life!
