February Athlete Spotlight: Deepak Gupta

Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc).

 

I AM A 16 YEAR US NAVY VETERAN WITH 5 YEARS OF ACTIVE DUTY AFTER 911 HAPPENED. I WAS STATIONED ON GUIDED MISSLE CRUISER CG71, USS CAPE ST. GEORGE. DURING MY FIVE YEARS OF ACTIVE DUTY I WAS DEPLOYED 5 TIMES WITH MY SHIP TO SUPPORT WAR ON TERRORISM. AFTER GETTING OUT OF ACTIVE DUTY, I SOLD CARS AND WORKED WITH A BANK IN THEIR MORTGAGE LENDING DEPT AND THEN LANDED UP HERE WITH PA STATE POLICE AND I AM HERE SINCE THEN. I LOVE TO BE OUTDOORS. HAD TRIED PARAGLIDING AND PARACHUTE JUMPING BEFORE I HAD KIDS, NOW I THINK TWICE BEFORE I WILL TRYING ANYTHING NEW KEEPING MY FAMILY FUTURE IN MIND.

My favorite book or movie: Forrest Gump, Die Hard

 

My favorite local restaurant: Guru (Indian Restaurant)

 

How I was introduced to CrossFit:  IN SEARCH TO LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE WITH MOTIVATION.

 

My fitness routine before CrossFit:  THERE WAS NO EXERCISE ROUTINE BEFORE I CAME TO CROSSFIT.

 

My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout:  I WAS HOOKED AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED, OFCOURSE BEAT UP BUT FELT VERY GOOD INTERNALLY, CANNOT EXPRESS WHAT IT WAS.

 

My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:  LEARNING PROCESS TO DO EVERYTHING RIGHT WAY AND THE BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IS THE INCREASED MOBILITY OF ALL MY JOINTS ESPECIALLY KNEE.

 

My favorite WOD is:  WALL BALLS, BURPEES, BOX JUMP AND OVERHEAD SQUAT.

 

My Favorite Lift is:  POWER CLEAN

 

My next goal is:  TO BECOME MORE PROFICiENT WITH HIGHER WEIGHT AND LOSE SOME WEIGHT AS WELL.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym? HAVE MORE ENERGY ALL DAY LONG, ABLE TO PLAY OUTSIDE WITH MY KIDS AND DOES NOT GET TIRED AS I USED TO.

What I love most about CrossFit Newtown:  ALWAYS FELT LIKE THAT I AM WORKING OUT WITH THE COMMUNITY THERE AT CROSSFIT NEWTOWN. COACHES AT CROSSFIT NEWTOWN ARE ALWAYS THERE TO HELP MEMBERS TO ACHIEVE THEIR FITNESS GOALS.

 

What advice I would give to someone just joining CrossFit Newtown:  BE PATIENT, DO NOT EXPECT OVERNIGHT RESULTS, ONE SHOULD COMMIT FIRST BEFORE EXPECTS ABY RESULTS, KNOW YOUR STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES.
