Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc): I live in Newtown. About one mile from the gym. I’m married with two kids and two step kids. I run a company that I started 4 years ago called Ivins & Co. Restoration and Custom Painting. I probably have too many hobbies to keep up with. I end up only squeezing a few of them in during day to day life. Other than that, I could easily write a book about my life but those are the basics.
My favorite book or movie: I can’t say that I have a favorite movie or book but a movie that I really enjoyed seeing recently was called Captain Fantastic. I recommend it to everyone.
My favorite local restaurant: I would definitely have to say that The Vault in Yardley is my favorite place to eat and have a couple of local brews.
Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you: I started hosting chickens in my backyard about 2 years ago. We’re up to 7 chickens now.
How I was introduced to CrossFit: I found out about crossfit after a movie I saw back in 2007. I’ve always been an avid rock climber and boulderer so I thought I would try to improve my fitness routine and try crossfit. It didn’t stick back then though. I’m just now rediscovering it and sticking to it.
My fitness routine before CrossFit: I’ve been a climber since I was about 18 years old. It was the first sport I was ever good at and loved. I’ve climbed out in Utah, New Mexico, New York, New Jersey, and of course Pennsylvania.
My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout: I knew I would love crossfit. The first workout at crossfit Newtown was pretty awesome. It’s a great gym and the members and coaches are awesome.
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is: Getting my first bar muscle up was definitely a proud moment. It’s been great to be able to do the heavier cleans and snatches also.
My favorite WOD is: Too soon to tell. There’s quite a few I haven’t done yet.
My Favorite Lift is: I’d have to go with the deadlift.
My next goal is: Definitely double unders.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?: Crossfit is great for me because it makes me be in the moment. It’s been a great tool for stress relief. And it’s fun as hell.
What I love most about CrossFit Newtown: The group at crossfit Newtown has been very welcoming to me. I’d have to say the coaches and the athletes are my favorite part.
What advice I would give to someone just joining CrossFit Newtown: Focus on good movement and don’t worry about what weights the others around you are doing.
Do you have any diet/nutritional advice?: Actually, I probably need some advice with that.
