Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc).

I am very involved and interested in Information Technology. I do a lot of work in the IT field through school and privately. I have an older brother Mitch and a younger sister, Laney. My mom is an optometrist and my dad is an engineer. We have the best dog in the world, Buckeye.

My favorite book or movie:

La La Land

My favorite local restaurant:

Hands down, Masa Sushi in Princeton! Best sushi I have ever eaten. The trick is, when you go there, order everything…. Twice.

Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you:

I am going to Marist College in New York next year!

How I was introduced to CrossFit:

I started going to CrossFit Newtown when I began having shoulder pain. I started working with Coach Mike. A few sessions in he asked if I wanted to try one of the WODs. Little did I know how much I was going to love it and how much it was going to change my life.

My fitness routine before CrossFit:

Along with volleyball, I used to run a decent amount. I would also do some basic stuff on weight machines at other gyms. Noting too intense, I usually wasted my time.

My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout:

I was excited that I finished it! It felt good.

My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:

There are way too many to pick from, to pick one that I am proudest of. When I first came to CrossFit Newtown I was only able to do a 55lb shoulder press and a 65lb snatch. After just over a year I can now shoulder press 150lbs and I snatch 135lbs. Hand stand push-ups also come to mind!

My favorite WOD is:

I don’t have a favorite necessarily but, I love WODs that have more than three movements!

My Favorite Lift is:

Clean and Jerk

My next goal is:

I came so close to Rx’ing all the Open workouts this year, unfortunately 17.5 held me just short of that goal! Rx’ing all next year’s Open workouts is my next goal. In the meantime, I want to get muscle-ups down.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?

Before I began CrossFit I was not eating well, I had low self-esteem, low confidence and was overall a pretty awkward, unhealthy kid. I had trouble talking to new people and always felt very self-conscious. No confidence, and low self-esteem are not very good qualities for a guy in high school. Once I started CrossFit and began eating healthier many aspects of my life increased greatly. I could think more clearly; I was getting stronger and I was gaining some much-needed weight. I began to feel more comfortable in my own skin. Having more confidence and self-esteem has helped me both socially and academically in ways that I couldn’t imagine. The biggest difference in my life that I can attribute to CrossFit is my happiness. Since starting CrossFit I have been much happier each day.

What I love most about CrossFit Newtown:

There is not a single person at CrossFit Newtown that doesn’t want to see every athlete succeed not only when doing workouts but in life. Every coach and member of CrossFit Newtown brings something unique. The atmosphere and community created by CrossFit Newtown has become part of my life and family.

What advice I would give to someone just joining CrossFit Newtown:

It isn’t necessarily supposed to be fun at first but, the more you push yourself, the more you are going to start enjoying the challenges. Stick with it!

Do you have any diet/nutritional advice?

I eat anything and everything I can get my hands on.
