Tell us something about your life outside of CrossFit (career, family, hobbies, etc).
Outside Crossfit I keep it very simple. I spend a lot of time with my friends and family. I work full time at a company that I love. I recently received a promotion and couldn’t be happier with my new role.
My favorite book or movie:
hmm.. tough one. I can’t decide. But I will say my favorite genre for each is Drama/Thriller
My favorite local restaurant:
The Melting Pot
Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you:
4 years ago I was over 300 lbs, diabetic with high blood pressure. I gave a little bit of an effort and lost about 100 lbs, got rid of the diabeties and high blood pressure… yo-yo’ed my way back up another 45 lbs. September last year I decided I am too young to be that way and I needed to make a change for the rest of my life. Joined Crossfit 1 year ago, scariest and best decision I have ever made.. I’m down 47 lbs total and roughly 23 inches all around!
How I was introduced to CrossFit:
My fitness routine before CrossFit:
There wasn’t much of one. I would go to Planet Fitness and stroll on the treadmill
My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout:
“There is no way I can do this,”
My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:
I had a callous rip open from doing pull ups. That was awesome! I showed that off to everyone!
My favorite WOD is:
I don’t have a favorite, every WOD is a torturing event… lol.
My Favorite Lift is:
Shoulder Push Press
My next goal is:
I have so many, but … I haven’t been able to up my shoulder press weight in an embarrassingly long amount of time. It’s so frustrating.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?
How hasn’t it… Crossfit changed my entire life. I more focused, more aware of myself. My life goals have changed. I am a completely different person than I was a year ago.
What I love most about CrossFit Newtown:
The people. You guys will never really know how much I appreciate you. Watching everyone else achieve their goals drives me to work harder to reach mine. Thank you all for being so encouraging.
What advice I would give to a someone just joining CrossFit Newtown:
Just stay with it. It can be very intimidating.. it IS very intimidating, but stay with it. Get to know your coaches and your classmates.
Do you have any diet/nutritional advice?
Well, I switched to 90% Paleo and so far its been great. I leave my other 10% for my happy hours after work and the occasional brownie/ice cream treats lol
What Maria’s Coaches are saying about her:
“Maria is an awesome athlete to coach. She works hard, stays positive, and never complains about any of the WODs. I am so proud of her accomplishments and wish her continued success! Congrats Maria!”
