November Member of the Month: Lisa Strigel

Congratulations to our member, Lisa Strigel who has been selected as our November Athlete of the Month.

Lisa is a role model for all the women in our gym and has really put in the extra effort to improve her skills and increase her strength through technically sound lifts.   She has been consistent since day 1 and it’s certainly paying off.  Her attitude is always a great addition to any class and she provides much needed energy, always looking to make progress with her training.  Lisa is a joy to watch and coach…congrats Lisa!

How I was introduced to CrossFit:  A friend of mine started doing Crossfit and loved it.  He invited me to try it out at his box and shortly after I got an email about Crossfit Newtown’s Living Social deal. I bought it and the rest is history!

My fitness routine before CrossFit:  For years I went to the gym and used the elliptical and free weights.  I got bored and wanted something different so I tried Insanity and P90X. I loved that the workouts were different every day and realized I could never go back to the elliptical.

My thoughts after my first CrossFit workout:  Fran was the WOD at my first foundations class. I was so sore afterwards but I couldn’t wait to go back to challenge myself more!

My proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:    My proudest Crossfit accomplishment is being selected for Athlete of the Month among so many dedicated and hard-working athletes!

My favorite WOD is:  My favorite WOD is Fran because I’ve done it three times since I started a year ago and have really been able to see my skills improve.  That definitely keeps you motivated and working towards your next goal!

My Favorite Lift is:  My two favorite lifts are back squats and push presses.

My next goal is:  I love kipping pull-ups but I want to work on being able to do consecutive dead hang pull-ups.

What I love most about CrossFit Newtown:  I love that Crossfit Newtown is such a positive community that I want to be a part of every day.  I never want to miss a WOD because I’m surrounded by supportive coaches and athletes who share the same goals. I feel lucky to have found Crossfit Newtown!
